Spiral Stairway Design and Engineering for 66' Sportfish
When the owner originally bought this 66' Sportfishing boat it was fitted with a vertical flybridge ladder off to the side of the cockpit. The ladder was too steep and uncomfortable to use in a seaway. He needed a more attractive and safer alternative so I was hired to design and engineer the spiral stairway shown in the picture and drawings.
The detailed drawings allowed the yard to accurately estimate the work so the owner knew what the cost would be before starting. Once the owner approved the estimate, the metal fabrication was able to begin in the shop before the boat arrived at the yard so that down time was minimized.
In addition to the stainless steel stairway, the design work included modifications to the mezzanine deck to accomodate new cockpit refrigeration and bait freezers below and varnished teak seating against the bulkhead.
