A good portion of my sailing yacht design work has been with traditional yachts. This is not surprising because many owners still appreciate the traditional beauty of classic yachts but choose to build these modern classics using modern materials. A very cost effective way to build a modern classic is to start with a computer lofted hull form and generate frame shapes with full size drawings or CNC cut forms. Additional benefits of a 3D hull model are better visualization of the finished hull shape and accurate hydrostatics.
In addition to 3D hull models, I have also created surface files for smaller marine parts that were milled with 5 axis CNC milling machines. This is a very quick way to create a plug and mold for composite parts.
