Damian McLaughlin was hired to build the Bruce Kirby Designed 38' Ketch "PHEBE" for an experienced sailing couple from Nantucket. The builder needed construction drawings and details to turn Kirby's drawings into reality. Damian needed hull and deck construction, mold frame lofting and cutting, weight calculations, ballast, tankage layout, engine installation, rigging, chainplate, steering system, and alternate cockpit arrangement details.
Building upon a relationship of many years and a variety of projects, I was able to supply these many details in a timely and efficient manor so that the construction could progress and the owner's could see what was planned and what the various options were before wood was cut.
The result was a boat delivered on budget and exceeding the owner's expectations. PHEBE was launched in June of 2010 and spent the summer sailing in the waters off Nantucket. In addition to providing numerous enjoyable afternoons on the water, PHEBE and her crew brought home some silver at a few reagattas too.
PHEBE was named after the whaling sloop captained by Peleg Folger out of Nantucket in 1754.
